Processing
Please note: Only components A and B with the same lot number may be processed together!
Surface preparation:
All surfaces must be clean and free of contaminants that could prevent the curing of ELASTOSIL® RT 602 A/B. Examples of inhibitory contaminants include sulfur-containing materials, plasticizers, urethanes, amine-containing materials and organometallic compounds - especially organotin compounds. If it is not known whether a substrate inhibits cure, a small scale test should be performed to determine compatibility.
To blend :
Component A of ELASTOSIL® RT 602 contains the platinum catalyst, component B the crosslinker. Even trace amounts of the platinum catalyst can lead to gelation of the component containing the crosslinker. Therefore, tools (spatulas, stirrers, etc.) used to handle the platinum-containing component or the catalyzed compound should not come into contact with this component.
The two components should be thoroughly mixed in a weight or volume ratio of 9:1. To eliminate air introduced during dispensing or trapped under components or equipment, vacuum containment is recommended.
Curing :
The curing time of additional curing silicone rubber is highly dependent on the temperature, size and heat sink properties of the part being cast. Reactivity can be adjusted within wide limits by adding Catalyst EP or Inhibitor PT 88, depending on the processing requirements of the specific application. Catalyst EP increases reactivity, i.e. pot life and curing time are shortened. Inhibitor PT 88 is a pot life extender and extends the pot life and curing time. More information can be found in our brochure "Catalyst EP/Inhibitor PT88".
We recommend performing preliminary testing to optimize conditions for the specific application.
Packaging and storage
The 'Best Before' date of each batch is stated on the product label. Storage after the date stated on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. However, in this case, the properties required for the intended use must be checked for quality assurance reasons.
Safety instructions
According to the latest insights, the addition-curing silicone rubber ELASTOSIL® RT 601 A/B does not contain any toxic or corrosive substances that require special precautions when handling.
