What is epoxy?
Epoxy is a very versatile resin. Epoxy is also called resin (which is English for "resin"), although that is actually a broader term.
Epoxy resin usually consists of 2 components. A base also called resin and a harder. When this is put together, a chemical reaction takes place in which long chains and a network are built. This is called polymerization in chemistry.
Depending on the epoxy recipe, you will then get a flexible plastic or rubber result to a very hard plastic.
You can use epoxy for gluing, laminating, casting and coating, among other things. Epoxy resins are incredibly strong and some versions can withstand higher temperatures.
For example, with epoxy casting resins you can make beautiful table tops with glow in the dark effect or metal shine. You can effortlessly cast a thick clear object or create a beautiful cast resin work of art. The possibilities are endless.
With epoxy dyes you can give epoxy your own color. In addition to the basic colors, you can choose from metallic, glow in the dark, neon, glitter, transparent colors.
There are many different types of epoxy resins available, which is why we have listed the best ones for you here. These are often 2-component casting resins, which are easy to process.
Epoxy smells much less strong than polyester and is less sensitive to moisture than polyurethane, but certainly not harmless! Therefore, always use liquid-tight gloves and work in a well-ventilated area. Preferably also use safety glasses.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. We like to think along with you!
Which epoxy types are there?
Epoxy is usually offered in a 2 component set. However, there are also 1-component resins that cure by UV light. Those epoxies are usually used in 3D resin printers.
In our webshop we mainly offer the 2-component epoxy.
We offer unfilled clear epoxy and strong filled epoxies.
In addition, you can choose between flexible, almost rubber-like epoxy to epoxy that is as hard as glass.
in addition to casting resin epoxy, we also supply malleable epoxy and laminating resin epoxy
Cast resin epoxy
Many epoxy types can be cast. Epoxy can be colored very nicely and filled with many types of materials. The fillers make epoxy heavier or lighter, stronger and harder or more flexible,
For example, filled epoxies are often used for climbing holds, DIY bowling balls, and many more impact-resistant products.
Clear epoxy
Clear epoxy or clear resin is used to encapsulate or encapsulate objects and precious memories.
With clear epoxy resin you can cast big clear blocks, make bright objects, make beautiful river tables
Pour in electronics or create beautiful light effects. Crystal clear epoxy resin is very suitable for optical solutions.
Clear epoxy is also used to coat kitchen worktops and tables or to coat works of art, photos and paintings.
Epoxy can be colored beautifully and is therefore ideal for resin art applications.
Malleable epoxy
Malleable epoxy is used for sculpting, sealing and sealing or repair.
There are various epoxy pastes to model with, such as the Aves Epoxie series. In addition, there is a malleable lightweight epoxy that is quite strong after curing.
Finally, there are filled malleable epoxy pastes that are very strong after curing and are often used as a support cap or for hollow shapes.
Laminate epoxy
Epoxy is a perfect resin for laminating. In combination with carbon fabric, aramid fabric or fiberglass fabric, epoxy produces unparalleled strength laminates that are also resistant to many chemicals and moisture.
Epoxy is ideal for laminating boats and water basins, sports equipment and furniture.
epoxy glue
Epoxy adheres well to many surfaces, even without a primer. Almost all epoxy variants can be used for gluing. However, the best glue epoxy is the universal epoxy because it cures relatively quickly.
FAQ Epoxy
Where can I unburden my epoxy residues? You can treat cured epoxy as regular waste. Residues of uncured material or packaging must be handed in to an environmental point.
At what temperature can I best process epoxy? It is best to process epoxy between 18 and 25 o C . We recommend low temperatures for larger quantities. At higher temperatures the processing time is very short and there is an increased chance of discoloration or effect in the epoxy casting.
Is Epoxy Dangerous or Harmful? Liquid epoxy is certainly harmful. Always work with liquid-tight gloves, splash goggles and in a well-ventilated area or with a gas mask. Don't work in your bedroom! Cured material is not dangerous as long as you do not cut or abrade it.
Is Epoxy Food Safe? Many epoxy resins are in principle food safe for dry food at room temperature. However, you must have this tested yourself by authorities that can do this. Epoxies are no longer food-safe above their glass temperature, nor are they with greasy or warm food.
Why does my epoxy have an orange peel or wavy surface? Disturbances in the surface of epoxy are caused by:
1) Temperature fluctuations, do not leave the epoxy in sunlight, avoid drafts and make sure the room is about the same temperature during the ENTIRE curing process.
2) The epoxy has become too hot. Pour smaller amounts at a time or work at a lower temperature.
Why is my casting cloudy or hazy? This could be due to 2 things
1) The mold and/or the original was matte. That of course also gives a matte casting
2) there is talk of amino blush. Epoxies often work with aminos. The reaction materials can easily react with carbon dioxide and water from the air. You can actually assume that all epoxies form amino blush and that this actually always happens (even if you don't see it properly). That is also the reason why you should always clean a cast cured layer well before you pour a new or other layer on it. Amino blush migrates to the top layer as long as you keep pouring wet in wet. Amino blush is easy to dissolve with soapy water and lukewarm water and a cloth. Do not sand or polish before removing the amino blush. This will only cause further spread!

Epoxy resins and their uses
Epoxy Casting Resin Clear :
A very easy way to cast small to large beautiful clear objects. This epoxy is UV stabilized. The long curing time ensures a bubble-free casting. Note that the bending temperature is about 55°C. So this is not an epoxy to make coasters for hot coffee cups, for example.
Universal Epoxy Casting Resin :
This universal resin is widely used in the boat building and manufacturing industry. Because the resin can be used as laminating resin, glue, casting resin and coating, it is widely applicable. The low viscosity means that the resin can impregnate well with the different fibres. After curing, the epoxy is very strong and impact resistant.
Ultracast XT Clear Epoxy
and perfect epoxy to apply to a table, bar or kitchen worktop. This epoxy can withstand higher temperatures up to 90°C. This epoxy can be colored beautifully with dye, transparent dye or glitter or metal effects and even glow in the dark powder.
MasterCast 1-2-1 Clear Epoxy Coating Resin
MasterCast epoxy resin is excellent for making Resin-Art and can be applied to canvas, wood, MDF, Perspex, concrete and metal. Especially suitable for lamination, with excellent UV resistance and clarity.
