A1 Thixo A
Description
A1 Thix A is an additive used to thicken products into a gel. This thixotropic agent is ideal for making gelcoats and for manufacturing vertical or overhanging parts. Add A1 Thix A to the A1 mix until the desired thickness (viscosity) is achieved. The maximum percentage of A1 Thix A that can be added is 2% of the total weight. Adding more than this percentage will reduce the effect.
Processing
Top layer A1
When working in a mold, the first layer (called top layer) of A1 is crucial, because this is the final visible layer. Use A1 Thix A to make a beautiful paste from A1 . The thickening keeps the A1 in place, even in molds with vertical parts. Follow the steps below to ensure that this top layer has sufficient thickness:
Mix A1 Liquid with A1 Powder until smooth.
If desired, add pigment in the appropriate color and/or other materials such as dried sand or metal powders to the mixture.
Add A1 Thix A until the desired thickness (viscosity) is reached. The maximum percentage of A1 Thix A that can be added is 2%. If you add more, the effect will be reduced.
Apply the A1 top coat to the mold with a brush and maintain a layer thickness of at least 1 mm.
After the top layer has gelled (normally between 20 – 30 minutes), we recommend applying the next A1 (glass plate, fibre reinforced) within 1 hour to optimise adhesion.
Special Instructions
Preferably work above a temperature of 10°C, and preferably at 20°C.
