What is a Silicone Emulsion (PDMS)?
Professional, non-ionic silicone emulsion based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) . Ideal as a water-based release agent, gloss/spreading additive, fabric softener, and maintenance component.
An emulsion is a mixture of two immiscible phases, stabilized by surfactants. In O/W emulsions (oil-in-water) such as Sempure 60, the silicone oil is dispersed in the water as fine droplets.
Quality information
Standard industrial grade. Food/pharmaceutical variants available upon request. Consult documentation for D4/D5/D6 content and compliance.
Why Sempure 60 (60% PDMS)
- ✓ Non-ionic → broad compatibility & easy dilution
- ✓ Medium-viscosity PDMS → balance between gloss, slip and durability
- ✓ Consistent cell/droplet structure → stable end result
Typical Benefits
- → Excellent spreading, wetting & water repellency
- → Slip/lubrication on rubber, plastic, metal, textiles
- → Water-dilutable → economical in use
Applications of Emulsions
Mold Release Agent
- Rubber & plastic molds, foundry/composite work
- Reduces sticking, accelerates release, beautiful surface
Gloss & Maintenance
- Car & furniture polish, tire dressing, plastic care
- Improves gloss, reduces smear, uniform film
Textiles & Fibers
- Soft-handle/silky feel, lubricity in yarns
- Friction reduction during processing and finishing
Silicone Lubricant (Water-Dilutable)
Looking for a silicone lubricant that you can set with water, sprays evenly, and dries quickly? Then an O/W silicone emulsion like BRB Sempure 60 is ideal. For direct contact with food, choose only products that are labeled food-safe.
Silicone Grease vs. Silicone Emulsion
Silicone grease (also silicon grease) is a greasy, non-water-dilutable lubricant; a silicone emulsion is water-dilutable and forms a thin silicone film after drying.
Silicone Grease Coffee Machine
For brew group/O-ring maintenance in coffee machines, use food-grade silicone grease, not an emulsion. See our grease category for FDA/NSF-compliant options.
When do you choose silicone grease?
- Local lubrication, O-rings, long-lasting film
- Non-dilutable, higher film strength than emulsion
Diluting & Processing O/W Emulsions
- Dilute with water to desired solids (e.g. 1:3 – 1:20, process dependent)
- Stir gently; avoid foaming where possible
- Spray, roll or dip; let water evaporate → silicone film
Tip: Always test on a small area for optimal gloss/slip and to assess overspray.
FAQ about Emulsions & Silicone Emulsion
Is a silicone emulsion the same as a silicone lubricant in an aerosol can?
No. An O/W emulsion is water-soluble and is applied wet; a spray silicone lubricant is usually a solvent- or propane/butane-based product. Choose the one that best suits your process and safety requirements.
Can I use an emulsion on food contact parts?
Only if the product is explicitly labeled as food-safe (food-safe silicone lubricant) and has been applied correctly. Request documentation.
