What is Silicone sealant ?
Our single-component silicone adhesives are RTV-1 (room-temperature vulcanizing) systems that cure with humidity. They serve as a silicone adhesive sealant : a single product that bonds and seals.
Available in neutral (alkoxy/oxime) and acetoxy, with varieties from transparent "clear RTV" to black, and in flowable or thixotropic, paste-like consistencies.
Key Features
- 1-component: straight from the tube/cartridge; no mixing required
- Bonding + sealing: one product for bonding and sealing
- Surfaces: metal, glass, ceramics, many plastics* and painted parts
- Performance: temperature resistant, elastic, durable
*Check datasheet and primer recommendations; some plastics (PE/PP/PTFE) require pretreatment.
Choosing silicone adhesive: curing, color and processing
Neutral vs acetic acid
- ✓ Neutral (alkoxy/oxime): corrosion-free, widely applicable
- ✓ Acetic acid (acetoxy): excellent glass/ceramic bonding
Transparent or black
- → Transparent: "clear RTV" for inconspicuous seams
- → Black/white/gray: aesthetics, contrast or opaque
Flowable vs. pasty
- → Flowable: self-levelling, capillary flow
- → Pasty: thixotropic, stable on vertical surfaces

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is there a difference between silicone glue and silicone sealant?
In practice, we use the umbrella term "silicone adhesive sealant": a single product that both bonds and seals. The differences lie primarily in viscosity (flowable vs. pasty) and the curing system (neutral vs. acetic acid).
When should I choose a neutral silicone adhesive instead of an acetic silicone adhesive?
Neutral (alkoxy/oxime) is corrosion-free and widely applicable (glass, metals, electronics). Acetic acid (acetoxy) adheres very well to glass/ceramics but can corrode certain metals.
Does RTV-1 adhere to metal and glass without a primer?
Often, yes, but the highest and most durable adhesion is achieved with thorough cleaning/degreasing and, if necessary, a suitable primer/adhesion promoter. Consult the datasheet.
