Premium Black RTV-1 Silicone for Professional Sealing and Bonding Applications

Wacker ELASTOSIL® E43 Black is a one-component, acetoxy-curing silicone rubber paste that cures at room temperature under the influence of atmospheric moisture. With a dynamic viscosity of 250,000 mPa·s, the product is moderately self-levelling and suitable for precise applications as an adhesive, sealant and FIPG (Formed-In-Place-Gasket). After full curing at 23°C and 50% relative humidity, it yields a Shore A 30 elastomer with a tensile strength of 6.5 N/mm² and an elongation of 500%. The recommended service temperature is -45°C to +220°C, with a short-term peak temperature of up to 250°C. ELASTOSIL® E43 Black adheres without primer to many substrates, including glass, metal, ceramics, plastics and powder coatings, and is ideally suited as an adhesive on cured silicone rubber and silicone-coated textiles.

Key Benefits

  • Shore A 30 hardness: Flexible and elastic end product – absorbs vibrations and mechanical stresses in the joint without cracking.
  • Tensile strength 6.5 N/mm² at 500% elongation: Excellent mechanical properties for an RTV-1 silicone – suitable for dynamically loaded joints in machine and equipment construction.
  • Skin formation in 10 minutes at 23°C / 50% RH: Fast surface drying for precision applications – prevents contamination during curing.
  • Service temperature -45°C to +220°C: Wide thermal range – stable under prolonged exposure to high temperatures in heating, cooling and electronics.
  • Primerless adhesion to cured silicone rubber: Unique feature of the E43 series – ideal for repair, seam sealing and bonding of siliconised materials.
  • Solvent-free and self-levelling: No shrinkage due to solvent evaporation – even filling of seams and joints without rework.

Typical Applications

  • FIPG (Formed-In-Place-Gaskets) in machine and equipment construction – liquid-tight seals for flange connections and housings
  • Bonding and sealing of cured silicone rubber and siliconised textiles – seam sealing, repair and bonding
  • Electronics and e-mobility – potting, sealing of housings and connections in environments with thermal cycling
  • Lighting fixtures and white goods – sealing of connections and feed-throughs
  • Railway industry and small appliances – vibration-damping adhesive joints in dynamically loaded structures
  • Heating & cooling systems – resistant to permanent exposure to heat and condensation

Processing instructions:

  1. Make sure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free of grease. Remove dust and loose particles.
  2. Apply ELASTOSIL® E43 Black directly from the cartridge or tube onto the surface. The product is ready to use and requires no mixing.
  3. Smooth or position immediately after application – skin formation occurs after approx. 10 minutes at 23°C and 50% relative humidity.
  4. Curing rate is approx. 12 hours per mm of thickness at 23°C and 50% RH. Full curing of thick layers requires free access of humid air to the silicone surface.
  5. Elevated temperature has only a minimal effect on the curing rate. Heat treatment is only suitable for thin films (<0.5 mm) – with thicker layers, blistering may occur due to rapid release of acetic acid.
  6. Removal before full curing: use white spirit or a comparable non-polar solvent. Remove cured material mechanically, if necessary in combination with a silicone remover.
⚠️ Acetic acid: ELASTOSIL® E43 Black is an acetoxy-curing system. During curing, acetic acid is released (approx. 4 percent by weight). This has a sharp, pungent odour. Ensure adequate ventilation of the work area. Avoid prolonged inhalation of vapours. Do not use in poorly ventilated rooms without extraction.
⚠️ Moisture-sensitive when uncured: The product reacts with water, bases and alcohols, forming acetic acid. Store unopened cartridges dry and cool (minimum 0°C). Once opened, use immediately or reseal carefully.
⚠️ Not suitable for corrosion-sensitive metals: The released acetic acid can cause corrosion on copper, bronze and zinc. Carry out a compatibility test beforehand if in doubt about the substrate.
