Raw Materials for Formulators - Silicone Raw Materials for Cosmetic and Technical Formulation

Raw materials for formulators

Do you formulate yourself? Then you don't buy a ready-made product, but building blocks. On this page, we bring together our raw material lines: silicone raw materials for cosmetics, silicone raw materials for technical formulation, and silicones and additives for car care. All three come from the same chemical universe, the polysiloxanes, but they are evaluated, documented, and purchased in completely different ways.

Available from lab packaging to bulk, with traceable batches, TDS and SDS, and technical support regarding viscosity, functionality, and mixing ratios.

Which line do you need?

Cosmetic formulation

You create skincare, haircare, makeup, sunscreens, or cleaning products. You work with INCI names, an emulsion system, and sensory properties: spreadability, dry feel, shine, and tack-free finish.

  • Dimethicones and cyclic siloxanes
  • Amino-modified silicones for hair
  • Silicone emulsions, directly water-dilutable
  • Silanes and film formers

Technical formulation, RTV and LSR

You build your own curing system: a casting rubber, a potting compound, a coating, or a release system. You focus on Shore hardness, pot life, tensile strength, and chemical resistance.

  • Basic PDMS from 50 to 100,000 cSt
  • Vinyl PDMS, vinyl compounds and vinyl gum
  • OH fluids and Q resin
  • H crosslinkers and platinum catalysts

Car care formulation

You formulate coatings, waxes, shampoos, spray sealants, tire dressings, or interior care products. You focus on gloss, water repellency, durability, and safety on paint, rubber, and plastic.

  • Silicones and additives from BRB, Atoro and CHT
  • Hydrophobic film formers and gloss enhancers
  • Emulsions for water-based formulations
  • Additives for durability and spreadability

Typical formulation paths

RTV 2 and LSR, addition curing

Vinyl PDMS at the desired viscosity, an H crosslinker with Si H functionality, and a platinum catalyst. Vinyl D4 as a retarder for pot life and flow, Q resin for hardness and heat resistance.

Coatings and release systems

PDMS base fluids for slip and gloss, Q resin for film build-up and adhesion. Fine-tune viscosity with base oil or filler.

Condensation and RTV 1 related work

OH fluids as a building block or as a compatibility modifier. Consult the datasheet for the correct crosslinker and conditions.

Emulsions and skincare

Dimethicone for dry feel and spreadability, amino silicones for hair conditioning, silicone emulsions if you don't want to use high shear equipment.

Car care, gloss and water repellency

Hydrophobic silicones as film formers for gloss and beading, emulsions for water-based shampoos and quick detailers, high-viscosity fluids for durability on rubber and plastic.

Why buy from us

  • From lab to production: small, medium, and bulk packaging from the same source
  • Consistent quality: traceable batches, TDS and SDS available
  • Technical expertise: viscosity selection, ratios, and matching of crosslinker, inhibitor, and catalyst
  • Scaling up without reformulation: the same grade in labpack and in bulk
  • Fast delivery in the EU and fair prices

Safety and storage

  • For professional use only. Work according to TDS and SDS
  • Store sealed, cool, and dry, and avoid contamination
  • Pay attention to inhibitors of addition systems such as sulfur, amines, tin, and some dyes
  • Cosmetics and car care have their own legal frameworks; you remain responsible for the safety assessment of your end product

Tip: always test a small batch to verify reactivity, viscosity, and mechanics before scaling up.

Frequently asked questions

Can I order as a private individual?

These raw materials are intended for professional use. If you are looking for a ready-made system, please refer to our silicone casting rubbers.

Which viscosity do I need?

That depends on your processing method and the desired end properties. Lower viscosities flow better and de-air more easily, while higher viscosities provide more stability and often better mechanics. We are happy to advise you.

Do you also supply small quantities for lab work?

Yes. Many grades are available as lab packs, so you can test first and then scale up without changing suppliers or grades.

Why doesn't my addition system cure?

In almost all cases, there is poisoning of the platinum catalyst. Common causes include sulfur, amines, tin-containing condensation silicones, latex, some dyes, and incompletely cured substrates.

Quotation, samples and technical support

Are you looking for a specific viscosity, a vinyl or OH functionality, an H crosslinker profile, a platinum solution with a desired parts per million, or a dimethicone with a specific sensory profile? We are happy to assist you with formulation and supply.
