Before first use, place the mould in an oven at 100°C for around 1 hour. This is called post-curing and ensures optimal final quality of the silicone.
Then clean the mould with soapy water or in the dishwasher.
Place the mould on a stable surface, for example a baking tray, rack or oven dish. Make sure any seams of the mould line up nicely after placing it.
Now place the mould in an oven at 80°C for 10 to 15 minutes.
Take the mould out of the oven and fill it with the right amount of cake batter. Note: the mould is now quite hot.
Place the whole thing straight back in the oven, this time at the baking temperature of 160 to 180°C.
Because the silicone is partly insulating, baking times may differ from those stated on the packaging. So keep a close eye on the cake.
For large or solid moulds, it can be wise to cover the mould with aluminium foil before placing it in the oven, to prevent burning on top.
Store the cake mould in a dark space at room temperature, flat and free of pressure, so it keeps its shape.
Yes, lightly grease the silicone with butter before the batter goes in. This way the cake comes out of the mould easily and without residue.
By briefly preheating the mould before adding the batter, the cake bakes more evenly.
Silicone is partly insulating, so heat transfer differs from a metal tin. Keep a close eye on the cake and adjust the baking time as needed.
Yes, the mould is dishwasher safe. Soapy water is also fine.
