Before first use

Before first use, place the mould in an oven at 100°C for around 1 hour. This is called post-curing and ensures optimal final quality of the silicone.

Then clean the mould with soapy water or in the dishwasher.

⚠️ The mould becomes hot in the oven. Always use oven mitts when placing and removing it.

Place the mould on a stable surface

Place the mould on a stable surface, for example a baking tray, rack or oven dish. Make sure any seams of the mould line up nicely after placing it.

Preheat the mould

Now place the mould in an oven at 80°C for 10 to 15 minutes.

Fill the mould with cake batter

Take the mould out of the oven and fill it with the right amount of cake batter. Note: the mould is now quite hot.

⚠️ The mould is hot after preheating. Use oven mitts.

Bake

Place the whole thing straight back in the oven, this time at the baking temperature of 160 to 180°C.

Account for the baking time

Because the silicone is partly insulating, baking times may differ from those stated on the packaging. So keep a close eye on the cake.

Cover large or solid moulds

For large or solid moulds, it can be wise to cover the mould with aluminium foil before placing it in the oven, to prevent burning on top.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to grease the mould?

Yes, lightly grease the silicone with butter before the batter goes in. This way the cake comes out of the mould easily and without residue.

Why preheat the mould at 80°C?

By briefly preheating the mould before adding the batter, the cake bakes more evenly.

Why does my baking time differ from the packaging?

Silicone is partly insulating, so heat transfer differs from a metal tin. Keep a close eye on the cake and adjust the baking time as needed.

Can the mould go in the dishwasher?

Yes, the mould is dishwasher safe. Soapy water is also fine.

What is post-curing?

Post-curing is the one-time reheating of the mould, around 1 hour at 100°C before first use, for optimal final quality of the silicone.
