    Description

This plaster was specially developed for its high green strength and good thermal shock resistance. This makes it particularly suitable for larger castings with difficult cores.

It is not recommended to use the Hydracast M463P with metals that melt above 1100°C. It is also not recommended to incorporate magnesium into these powders.

For higher temperature core plaster we recommend Crystalcast .

    Technical data

    Mixing ratio by weight: Powder/water = 100/28
    Processing time/casting time: 23 minutes

The loose bulk density of the M463 powder is 1.149 gcm³
The compressed bulk density of the M463 powder is 1.694 gcm³
The slurry density of the mixed M463 at 28% water ratio is 1.873 gcm³

    MIXING PROCEDURE - conventional mixing

    1. Determine the weight of the powder and measure the temperature of the powder.
    2. Weigh the powder and it measures the temperature of the water.
    3. Choose a water temperature that allows you to get a slurry temperature of 20°C
    4. Measure the required amount of water into a clean mixing bowl.
    5. Add the plaster to the water.
    6. Mix by hand for 30 seconds to break up any lumps.
    7. Mix by machine for another 4 minutes.
    8. Vacuum the plaster in the bowl (no more than 3 minutes).
    9. Slowly pour the plaster down the side of the cylinder until the wax patterns are covered.
    10. Vacuum the plaster in the cylinder (no more than 3 minutes).
    11. Leave the cylinders undisturbed (at least 2 hours).
    12. Remove the thrush base and collar.

    Mixing procedure - VACUUM MIXING

    1. Determine the weight of powder and the amount of water.
    2. Weigh the powder and measure the temperature.
    3. Adjust the water temperature to give a slurry temperature of 20°C.
    4. Measure the required amount of water in the mixing chamber.
    5. Add the investment powder to water.
    6. Mix under vacuum for 5 minutes.
    7. Slowly fill the flasks located in the investing chamber.
    8. Release vacuum and remove the bottles from the chamber after a total of 10 minutes.
    9. Let the cobs sit undisturbed (at least 2 hours).
    10. Remove the sprues.

    DE-WAX and burnout

For best results, the waxed flasks should be steam-baked in an autoclave at a pressure of no more than 0.7 bar (10 psi) and then placed in an oven at room temperature and heated to 200°C at no more than 200°C/hr. After soaking at 200°C for 3-4 hours, the flasks should be heated to 700°C at no more than 100°C/hr. The time at this temperature will depend on the kiln loading and flask size, but it will typically take 5 hours to burn out a 25 x 25 x 25 cm flask and up to 16 hours for a 50 x 50 x 50 cm flask. After this, the kiln should be cooled to casting temperature at 100°C/hr, typically 280-400°C for aluminum.

If steam dewaxing is not available, flasks should be placed in a preheated oven at 150°C and allowed to soak for 5–7 hours before increasing to 700°C, at no more than 100°C/hour. Soaking times at 700°C will be the same as for steam dewaxing.
