Clear, heat-resistant epoxy resin for worktops, coasters and resin art

Eli-Chem UltraCast XT is a solvent-free two-component epoxy resin that cures at room temperature to an optically very clear, high-gloss finish. The resin has high chemical resistance and, once fully cured, withstands temperatures up to 90 °C. You mix resin and hardener 100 : 50 by weight and have a long working time. This makes UltraCast XT suitable for coating table tops, bar tops and kitchen worktops, and for casting coasters, resin art and coin floors.

Application

1. Weigh components A and B accurately in a 100 : 50 ratio by weight and mix thoroughly.
2. Add an epoxy colourant if required and mix again until the colour is even.
3. Pour the epoxy or apply it with a brush or roller in a thin layer over the whole surface. 0.5 litre covers approx. 1 m² at a thickness of 0.5 mm.
4. Apply a second coat if needed. This works best when the first coat has not yet fully cured.
5. To reinforce certain areas, use glass fibre cloth.
6. At 20 °C the epoxy is cured after 24 hours. The final properties and heat resistance are reached after 2 to 3 weeks at 20 °C.

Points to note

• ✓ Work at a room temperature between 18 and 30 °C. Because of the long working time, the epoxy is sensitive to high humidity, draughts and air conditioning.
• ✓ Larger volumes or higher temperatures shorten the working time.
• ✓ Too much colourant or adding alcohol can disturb the cure, cloud the surface and reduce heat resistance. Fillers also reduce heat resistance. With a high filler content, finish with an unfilled top coat.
• ✓ Store dry between 18 and 28 °C and close opened containers tightly. The shelf life is then 2 years.
• ✓ If the components have turned cloudy below 15 °C, warm the closed container in a bain-marie to approx. 60 °C, keep it there for a few hours and shake occasionally.
• ✓ Cured residues can go in general waste. Dispose of uncured components and containers with residues as chemical waste.
