📋 Processing Tips for Acrylic Resin in Silicone Molds
Optimal Results with Acrylic One, Jesmonite & A1
1. Mold Preparation
Make sure your silicone mold is fully cured (24 hours for addition, 16 hours for condensation). Clean the mold with soap and water as needed. No release agent needed!
2. Mixing Acrylic Resin
Follow the instructions for your acrylic resin brand (Acrylic One, Jesmonite, A1). Mix thoroughly but gently to minimize air bubbles.
3. Pouring
Pour slowly and in a thin stream to avoid air bubbles. For Jesmonite, use a brush to apply the first coat for the best detail.
4. Curing
Allow the acrylic resin to cure completely according to the manufacturer's instructions. Acrylic One and A1: usually 24-48 hours. Jesmonite: 24 hours.
5. Deformation
Gently bend the silicone mold to release the casting. Start at the edges and work toward the center. Soft silicone (Shore A 10-25) makes this easiest.
6. Mal Maintenance
Clean the mold with soap and water. Let it dry completely before reuse. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
🎓 Frequently Asked Questions - Silicone for Acrylic Resin
Can I pour Acrylic One into all silicone molds?
Yes! Acrylic One is compatible with all silicone molds. For best results, we recommend Shore A 20-30 for terrazzo and decorative objects.
Which silicone is best for Jesmonite?
For Jesmonite, we recommend soft to medium silicone (Shore A 10-25). Silicone Condensate 20 or Silicone Addition Clear 25 are popular choices.
Do I need release agent for acrylic resin?
No! One of the great advantages of acrylic resin is that it doesn't bond to silicone. No release agent is needed, which saves time and money.
How many castings can I make with a silicone mold?
With acrylic resin (Acrylic One, Jesmonite, A1), you can make hundreds to thousands of castings. Addition silicones last the longest, but condensation silicones also have a long lifespan with acrylic resin.
Addition or condensation silicone for acrylic resin?
Both work great! Additive silicone offers minimal shrinkage and a longer lifespan (premium choice). Condensation silicone is more cost-effective and easier to use (beginner-friendly).
