Clear epoxy resin for resin art and coating artwork

Eli-Chem MasterCast 1-2-1 is a two-component epoxy resin that cures to a clear, high-gloss resin coating. You mix 1:1 by volume (100 : 90 by weight) and apply the resin by pouring or with a brush or roller. It cures at room temperature, contains UV inhibitors and does not shrink or distort after curing. With a viscosity of 4,400 mPa·s, MasterCast is slightly thicker than totalCAST, which makes it well suited to resin art and intensely coloured layers. After curing, the hardness is Shore D 75 to 78.

Typical applications

✓ Resin art on canvas, wood and MDF

Application

Make sure the surface is clean, dry and dust-free.
Measure components A and B in a 1:1 ratio by volume, or 100 : 90 by weight.
Mix thoroughly, scraping the sides and bottom of the mixing cup. Add colourant if required and mix again until the colour is even.
Use the mixture within the working time: for 250 g approx. 15 to 20 minutes at 23 °C and 10 to 12 minutes at 25 °C.
Pour the resin or apply it with a brush or roller.
Leave to cure at room temperature. The layer is tack-free after approx. 4 to 5 hours (23 °C) and fully cured after 5 to 7 days.

Points to note

✓ The heat deflection temperature is 45 to 50 °C, so do not place hot objects such as cups or plates on the surface. If you need higher heat resistance, choose UltraCast XT.
✓ The resin is UV-stabilised, but not indefinitely UV-resistant. Every clear epoxy will show signs of UV ageing over time.
✓ Avoid skin contact and work in a well-ventilated area.
✓ Store the components tightly closed in the original packaging.

Avoid skin contact with the individual components and the mixture. Wear nitrile gloves, protective clothing and eye protection, work in a well-ventilated area and wash skin with plenty of soap and water after contact.
