Premium Chemically Inert Silicone Oil for Professional Mold and Lubrication Applications
Silicone Oil 50 cSt is a low-viscosity, colorless, and chemically inert polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fluid with a viscosity of 50 cSt and a density of 0.959 g/cm³ at 25°C. With a flash point of 280°C, a pour point of -55°C, and a surface tension of 20.7 mN/m, Silicone Oil 50 cSt combines good fluidity with a higher flash point than lower viscosity grades, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial and artisanal applications. The 50 cSt viscosity offers a balanced equilibrium between spread and film retention, making this product versatile for use as a release agent, silicone additive, lubricant, and defoamer.
Key Benefits
- Flash Point 280°C: High flash point compared to lower viscosity grades – greater safety margin at elevated processing temperatures.
- Viscosity 50 cSt at 25°C: Balanced equilibrium between fluidity and film retention – spreads well but stays on vertical surfaces longer than 5 or 10 cSt grades.
- Pour Point -55°C: Retains its liquid properties at low temperatures – suitable for applications in cold environments and winter outdoor applications.
- Surface Tension 20.7 mN/m: Excellent wetting of surfaces – even spread as a release coating on molds and dies.
- Chemically non-reactive: Does not react with addition or condensation silicones, most plastics, and elastomers – safe as an additive without unwanted side reactions.
- Colorless and Odorless: Leaves no visible residue – suitable for applications where aesthetic neutrality is required.
Typical Applications
- Release agent for rubber, polyurethane, epoxy, and metal injection molding – more durable film than lower viscosity grades on complex vertical mold surfaces
- Additive in addition and condensation silicones (1–10%) to reduce hardness and increase fluidity – for smoother, more flexible end products
- Defoamer in non-aqueous systems – effective in small quantities
- Lubricant for plastic and elastomer surfaces – excellent lubricating properties without material degradation
- Electrical insulator and damping fluid in electrical and electronic equipment
- Raw material for cosmetic formulations (INCI: Dimethicone) – skin and hair care products
Processing Instructions (as an additive in silicones):
- Weigh the desired amount of component A of your silicone and add component B according to the mixing ratio information sheet.
- Stir the mixture thoroughly.
- Add the silicone oil to the silicone mixture and stir again. Vary between 1 and 10% oil by total weight. An addition of approximately 8% reduces the Shore A hardness by about 3 to 5 points.
- Keep the percentage below 10%: more than 10% oil can unacceptably reduce the final strength of the cured silicone.
- Process the mixture within the pot life of your silicone.
