Premium Volatile Dimethicone for Professional Cosmetic and Industrial Applications
Silicone Oil 1.5 cSt is an extremely low-viscosity, colorless, volatile polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fluid with INCI name Dimethicone, a viscosity of 1.5 cSt, and a density of 0.851 g/cm³ at 25°C. The distinguishing feature of this grade is its volatile nature: after application, the fluid evaporates completely without leaving any visible residue or greasy feel. With a flash point of 57°C (closed cup), a melting point of -76°C, and a surface tension of 18.0 dynes/cm, Silicone Oil 1.5 cSt is the most commonly used volatile silicone as a replacement for cyclic siloxanes (D4/D5) in personal care products. The 1.5 cSt grade requires attention to fire prevention when used in enclosed spaces due to its relatively low flash point.
Key Benefits
- Volatile without residue: Evaporates completely after application – leaves no greasy or sticky feeling on skin or hair, unlike non-volatile dimethicones.
- Surface tension 18.0 dynes/cm: Excellent spreadability on skin and hair – even distribution of active ingredients and other cosmetic components.
- Melting point -76°C: Retains its liquid properties at very low temperatures – stable in all climate conditions.
- Compatible with a wide range of cosmetic ingredients: Mixes with chlorinated, aromatic, and aliphatic solvents – good basic carrier for active substances.
- Substitute for cyclic siloxanes D4/D5: Linear PDMS structure without the SVHC classification of D4/D5 – suitable for formulations avoiding cyclomethicones.
- Dielectric strength 350 volts/mil: Exceptional electrical insulation properties – suitable for electrical and electronic applications.
Typical Applications
- Volatile carrier in hair care products such as hairsprays, conditioners, and leave-in treatments
- Basic component in skin care: cleansing creams, lotions, sunscreens, and bath oils
- Formulation raw material for antiperspirants and deodorants – ideally suited for the 1.5 cSt grade
- Substitute for cyclomethicone (D4/D5) in formulations avoiding SVHC substances
- Industrial: coatings for glass vials and lenses, household products, penetrating oil ingredients, and polish
- Electrical insulating fluid in precision mechanical and electronic equipment
