Wetting agent for better slurry adhesion to wax

Victawet 12 is a non-ionic, low-foaming organic phosphate ester. You use it as a wetting agent in ceramic shell slurries, with both acidic and alkaline binders. Victawet 12 helps the slurry adhere better to the wax surface. It is a 100% active liquid with a specific gravity of 1.12.

Key benefits

  • Better wax adhesion: the slurry wets the wax pattern evenly.
  • Versatile: works in acidic and alkaline binders.
  • Low foam: non-ionic and low-foaming.
  • Low dosage: normally below 0.75% by volume.

Typical applications

  • ✓ Primary slurries for ceramic shell
  • ✓ Investment casting and art casting
  • ✓ Slurries based on colloidal silica

Processing

  1. Before use, measure the pH of a 0.5% solution of Victawet 12.
  2. Add 0.25% by volume to primary slurries, based on the total binder liquid (binder plus concentrate plus any dilution water).
  3. Check that the slurry wets the wax parts properly. If not, add more in 0.05% increments until wetting is satisfactory.
  4. Normally stay below 0.75% by volume.
  5. Always use Victawet 12 together with an effective anti-foam, such as Burst 100.

Points to note

  • ✓ Victawet 12 hydrolyses over time, producing an acid.
  • ✓ Do not add it to alkaline colloidal silica if the pH of the 0.5% solution has dropped below approx. 3.0 to 3.5. It is still safe to use with LUDOX SK grades.
  • ✓ Causes serious eye irritation. Wear eye protection and protective clothing.
  • ✓ This product is intended for the business market. For larger quantities or custom requirements, email info@siliconesandmore.com.
