Water-repellent silicone paste as lubricant, assembly aid and release agent

Wacker Silicone Paste P is a translucent, petroleum-jelly-like and relatively stiff silicone paste that does not cure. The paste is water-repellent, electrically insulating and has good surface slip. You use it as a lubricant and assembly aid for elastomers, especially O-rings, and as a heat-resistant release agent. Its pasty consistency changes little with temperature fluctuations.

Key benefits

  • Water-repellent: coated parts repel water well, which gives a degree of protection against corrosion.
  • Stays pasty: the paste does not cure and its consistency changes little with temperature.
  • Easy to work: the paste softens when kneaded or subjected to other mechanical stress.
  • No dripping: unlike oil, the paste stays where you apply it.
  • Electrically insulating: with high dielectric strength.
  • Good adhesion: to metals, glass and ceramics.

Typical applications

  • ✓ Assembly aid and lubricant for elastomers, especially O-rings
  • ✓ Heat-resistant release agent for extruder die rings
  • ✓ Release agent on slightly porous mould surfaces when demoulding rubber and plastic mouldings and casting resin parts
  • ✓ Thin film on the sealing bars of heat sealers for packaging film, to prevent sticking

Processing

  1. Grease larger parts with the neat paste, by hand or with a brush.
  2. Put small parts in large quantities into a plastic bag with a little paste. Knead the bag until the paste is spread over all surfaces.
  3. As a release agent, apply a thin film to the mould surface or the sealing bars.

Points to note

  • ✓ Silicone pastes have a slight swelling effect on most organic elastomers. For materials that are sensitive to swelling, Wacker recommends POWERSIL® PASTE AP, which is specially designed to cause little swelling of adjacent elastomers.
  • ✓ Keep the paste tightly closed in its original packaging.
