Fast defoamer for ceramic shell slurries

Burst 100 Antifoam is a non-ionic silicone defoamer for ceramic shell slurries. It breaks down foam quickly and lets trapped air bubbles escape fast. Burst 100 is compatible with many wetting agents and works in both alkaline and acidic binder systems. Before use, you dilute it 1 to 9 with deionised or distilled water. For longer-term foam control, you can combine Burst 100 with Remet's Foamaway.

Key benefits

  • Fast foam breakdown: air bubbles escape from the slurry quickly.
  • Acidic and alkaline: works in both types of binder system.
  • Broadly compatible: with most non-ionic, anionic and cationic agents.
  • Suitable for latex binders: and for slurries with powerful wetting agents.
  • Low dosage: a small amount of diluted emulsion is enough.

Typical applications

  • ✓ New and existing slurries for the ceramic shell
  • ✓ Slurries with latex binder and powerful wetting agents
  • ✓ Investment casting and art casting

Application

  1. Dilute: by hand or with a very slow-running mixer, add 1 part Burst 100 to 9 parts cold (16 to 32 °C) deionised or distilled water. Do not overmix, or the emulsion may partly break down.
  2. New slurry: add up to 0.20 vol.% diluted antifoam to the liquid portion before adding the flour. That is about 2 ml per litre.
  3. Existing slurry: start with 5 to 20 ml diluted Burst 100 for a total volume of up to about 190 litres, and 10 to 40 ml for larger volumes.
  4. Add the diluted antifoam slowly while mixing well. Otherwise it may float as an oily patch on the slurry and reach the wax, which impairs wetting.
  5. Two smaller additions a few hours apart are better than one large addition.
  6. Discard any diluted emulsion you do not use within 24 to 36 hours.

Points to note

  • ✓ The amount needed depends on binder, flour, additives and mixing procedure. Practical experience determines the right dosage.
  • ✓ Burst 100 is sensitive to temperatures below 5 °C and above 40 °C. Protect it from frost.
  • ✓ If the product has been frozen, let it thaw, stir it well and test it before use, for example for its effect on the surface tension of colloidal silica.
  • ✓ Stable for up to 1 year in a closed container at 20 °C.
  • ✓ This product is intended for the business market. For larger quantities or custom solutions, email info@siliconesandmore.com.
