Green casting wax for slush casting, brushing and backup

Limerick Green Slush Casting Wax is a green casting wax in pastilles for the lost-wax process. You pour or slush the wax into a mould, or brush it in for the first layer of detail. The wax has a melting point of 76 °C, shrinks very little and picks up fine detail. Less than 0.006% ash remains after burnout, so the bronze foundry can burn out the wax pattern completely.

Key benefits

  • Low shrinkage: the pattern keeps its shape during demoulding.
  • Fine detail: picks up fine details from the mould.
  • One wax for brushing and backup: thin enough to brush and firm enough to use as a backup wax.
  • Firm: does not sag in summer, is not grainy and does not stick.
  • Pastilles: easy to measure out.
  • Low ash: less than 0.006% ash after burnout.

Typical applications

  • ✓ Slush casting hollow wax patterns for the bronze foundry
  • ✓ Brushing detail into a mould, with the same wax as backup
  • ✓ Casting wax patterns for the lost-wax process
  • ✓ Finishing the cast wax pattern with modelling tools

Processing

  1. Melt the wax and keep it at the working temperature of 70 to 76 °C.
  2. Slush casting: pour the wax into the open mould, let it set briefly and pour out the wax that is still liquid. A thin wax shell remains.
  3. Repeat until you reach the required wall thickness.
  4. Brushing: brush the wax into the mould at melting temperature, then build up a backup at about the same temperature by slushing.
  5. Finish the demoulded wax pattern with tools if needed.

Points to note

  • ✓ Never heat the wax above 100 °C. This can permanently change its properties.
  • ✓ Avoid skin contact with molten wax and do not inhale the fumes.
  • ✓ Shelf life: at least 5 years.
