Premium Flexible Polyurethane Casting Elastomer for Professional Mold and Prototype Applications

Polyurethane Casting System Flexible A60 is a two-component polyurethane casting elastomer that cures at room temperature to a permanently elastic end product with a hardness of Shore A 60 and a pale yellow colour. The system combines high elongation with good tear strength and tensile strength and is easy to process. With a processing time of 12 to 16 minutes (at 100 grams, 25°C), a demoulding time of 15 to 18 hours and a mixing ratio of 100:50 (A:B) by weight, it offers reliable, simple processing. The final properties are reached after 7 days at 25°C. Polyurethane is generally more wear-resistant than silicone but more sensitive to UV and temperature, making the system ideal for moulds, prototypes and flexible castings.

    Key Benefits

    • Hardness Shore A 60: firm yet permanently elastic end product – retains shape and detail under repeated use and mechanical load.
    • Elongation at break > 800%: high elasticity – complex geometries and undercuts demould without tearing or permanent deformation.
    • Tensile strength 3.0 to 3.5 MPa: good mechanical strength – withstands tensile load on moulds and functional parts.
    • Processing time 12 to 16 minutes: ample pot life at 100 grams – sufficient time for mixing, degassing and pouring.
    • Linear shrinkage < 0.1%: negligible shrinkage – dimensionally stable castings and accurate reproduction of the original.
    • Pour height up to 50 to 60 mm: thick layers possible – pour a small volume at large thicknesses or in several layers to limit heat build-up.

    Typical Applications

    • Moulds for plaster and concrete work in construction, decoration and reconstructed stone
    • Manufacture of flexible technical parts and components of medium hardness
    • Production of moulds and models for casting and reproduction work
    • Prototypes and pre-series in design and product development
    • Replicas and demonstration models
    • Small flexible castings requiring high elongation and tear strength

    Processing Instructions:

    1. Stir or shake both components thoroughly in their original packaging to distribute the fillers. The moisture absorbers may settle; shake the packaging vigorously before use.
    2. Process the polyurethane only at room temperature (20 to 25°C) in a dry room above 15°C. Do not use wooden spatulas. Pour onto dry models isolated against moisture.
    3. Weigh the components accurately in a ratio of 100 parts A to 50 parts B (weight). A deviation of more than 3% means the stated specifications will not be achieved; for small quantities use a scale accurate to 0.01 gram.
    4. Pour components A and B together and mix thoroughly and homogeneously. Use a mixing bucket with a large surface area to maximise the processing time.
    5. Pour the mixture into the mould in a steady stream and avoid air entrapment. For castings thicker than 20 mm, pour several successive layers to limit heat build-up; let each layer set before the next. Work with a small volume at thicknesses approaching 60 mm.
    6. Wait to demould until 15 to 18 hours have passed. The thermal and mechanical properties develop quickly; the final specifications are reached after 7 days at 25°C.

    Mandatory Diisocyanate Training

The A component contains diisocyanates. Since 24 August 2023, adequate training is mandatory for industrial and professional use of products with a diisocyanate content above 0.1%. Make sure everyone working with this product has completed the required training before putting it into use. You can register directly through the official ISOPA platform at safeusediisocyanates.eu, where the trainings are available in all EU languages.

    Shelf Life

The polyurethane casting system should be stored dry between 15 and 25°C. The expiry date, based on storage within the specified conditions, is indicated on the packaging. The resin is moisture-sensitive and may thicken; process opened packaging as soon as possible. The normal shelf life is 6 months to 1 year with correct storage.
