Aluminosilicate stucco and flour for the ceramic shell process
Imerys Clayrac is a calcined aluminosilicate (chamotte) made from kaolinitic clay from the Charentes basin in France. You use it as stucco and as flour to build highly refractory and creep-resistant ceramic shell moulds, for example in art casting. Clayrac has a reliable particle size distribution and mineralogy and works in both alcohol- and water-based processes. Depending on the grade, it contains up to 45 % alumina.
Key benefits
- Highly refractory: with high creep resistance, also for steel and titanium alloys.
- Dimensionally accurate: valued for its dimensional accuracy.
- Excellent backup material: according to Imerys very well suited to the backup coats of the shell.
- Consistent quality: reliable particle size distribution and mineralogy.
- Alcohol or water: suitable for both processes.
- Several grain sizes: lets you build the shell more efficiently.
- Easy knock-out: the shell is easy to remove after casting.
Typical applications
- ✓ Ceramic shell moulds for art foundries
- ✓ Investment casting, including steel and titanium alloys
- ✓ Stucco for building up the shell
- ✓ Clayrac P 200 mesh as flour
Processing
- Use Clayrac as stucco when building the shell, or as flour (200 mesh), in an alcohol- or water-based process.
- Choose the right grain size for each coat. Using different grain sizes lets you build the shell more efficiently.
- For slurry composition, drying times and number of coats, follow the instructions for the binder you use.
Points to note
- ✓ Avoid creating dust and work with good extraction.
- ✓ Supplied in 25 kg bags. For larger quantities or delivery outside the Benelux and Germany, request a quotation.
