Premium Medium Modelling Wax for Sculpting, Wax Patterns and Bronze Casting

SculptaClay Grey Medium (PZ-A 3028M) from Precizioned is a wax-based sculpting medium for modelling, detailing and creative design. The medium formulation is ideal for light carving: easy to work while the clay keeps its shape and structure. Unlike water-based clays, SculptaClay is made of wax. This means you can also use your sculpture directly as a wax pattern in the lost-wax process, for example to have it cast in bronze: the ash content is below 0.015%. Hand warmth or controlled heat softens the clay, and it gradually firms up again as it cools, so you can keep refining the detail. SculptaClay never dries out and adheres to itself and to other waxes. It comes in a 4.56 kg (10 lbs) block.

Key Benefits

  • Medium, needle penetration 33 dmm: easy to work yet holds its shape – the all-rounder for light carving and modelling.
  • 100% castable: your sculpture is the wax pattern – take it straight to the foundry for the lost-wax process.
  • Ash content < 0.015%: ultra-low ash content – the wax burns out of the mould almost without residue.
  • Never dries out: stays workable – adjust your sculpture whenever you like.
  • Adheres to itself and other waxes: easy to build up, add to and repair.
  • Low tack: smooth and precise to model – holds even ultra-fine detail.

Typical Applications

  • Wax patterns for bronze and art casting (lost-wax process)
  • Sculpting figures, busts and reliefs
  • Light carving and general modelling work
  • Jewellery design and small detailed models
  • Repairing and adding to existing wax patterns and building sprues
  • Prototypes and figures for stop-motion

Processing Instructions:

  1. Choose the hardness that suits your work: Soft (red) for quick shaping, Medium (grey) for light carving and Firm (brown) for heavy carving and fine detail.
  2. Soften the clay with hand warmth or controlled ambient heat, for example a heat lamp. Warm it slowly and evenly and never over an open flame.
  3. Shape and model with your hands or with modelling tools. Pieces of clay bond together when you press them firmly.
  4. Let the clay cool. It gradually firms up, so you can continue carving and detailing.
  5. Smooth the surface. According to the manufacturer, SculptaClay works well with solvents; test your solvent on a scrap of clay first.
  6. Want to have the model cast? Deliver it to the foundry as a wax pattern and agree the investing and burnout with them. Leftover clay can be reused.

Please Note

  • Heat the clay in a controlled way and never over an open flame. Molten wax can cause burns.
  • Provide good ventilation when heating the clay. Wear safety glasses with side protection and suitable gloves for prolonged skin contact.
  • The manufacturer gives no information on sulphur or on suitability for platinum (addition-cure) silicones. If you are moulding with addition-cure silicone, test on a sample first or choose a condensation-cure silicone.
  • According to the safety data sheet, SculptaClay is intended for professional use.
  • Store the clay at room temperature and away from heat sources: wax deforms when warm.

Manufactured by International Precision Casting Supplies (IPCS) under the Precizioned brand, Hudson (Ohio, United States), a supplier of waxes and materials for precision and art casting.
