Premium Caprylyl Methicone for a Light and Silky Skin Feel in Cosmetics
Caprylyl Methicone (INCI) is a clear, colourless silicone fluid based on a branched caprylyl trisiloxane (C₁₅H₃₈O₂Si₃). It has been specifically developed for good compatibility with many organic cosmetic ingredients, such as vegetable oils, esters and beeswax. With a viscosity of approx. 3 cSt and a specific gravity of 0.84 it spreads easily and gives a light, silky and smooth skin feel without a greasy or tacky effect. It is moderately volatile, less volatile than cyclopentasiloxanes, and lowers the surface tension of organic oils. This makes it an excellent carrier and dispersing medium for pigments, powders and UV filters. The content of the cyclosiloxanes D4, D5 and D6 is below 0.1% each.

- Non-occlusive: keeps the skin supple without sealing it – and enhances the sensory profile of natural ingredients.
- D4, D5 and D6 each < 0.1%: cyclosiloxanes stay below the limit of REACH Annex XVII – suitable for rinse-off and leave-on products.
Typical Applications
- Skin care: creams, serums, day creams and body lotions
- Sun care: sunscreen products, to distribute UV filters
- Colour cosmetics: foundation, primers and powders, as a carrier for pigments
- Leave-in hair care: hair serums and hair oils
Processing instructions:
- Add Caprylyl Methicone directly to the oil phase of your formulation.
- Mix until the product is evenly dissolved or dispersed.
- Use it as a carrier for pigments or powders: first disperse them in Caprylyl Methicone, then add the dispersion to the oil phase.
- Take the solubility into account: insoluble in water, glycerin, castor oil and candelilla wax; soluble in ethanol, mineral oil, isohexadecane, C13-14 isoparaffin, jojoba, almond, sunflower, olive, coconut, sesame and corn oil, isopropyl myristate, C12-15 alkyl benzoate, capric/caprylic triglycerides, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate and beeswax, among others.
- Combine it with other silicones or vegetable oils for a non-greasy, non-clumping texture.
Please note
- Do not use in sprays or aerosols: inhaling mist can be harmful to health.
- Not intended for oral care and intimate hygiene products (maximum concentration 0% according to the manufacturer).
- Work in a well-ventilated room and wear safety glasses with side shields and protective gloves.
- Store the product tightly closed in a dry, well-ventilated place at room temperature. Shelf life: 3 years in the unopened original container.

The product is not classified as dangerous goods for transport (ADR, RID, IMDG, IATA). Ensure adequate ventilation, especially in confined spaces, and do not breathe vapour or mist. Wear safety glasses with side shields and protective gloves to EN 374. Respiratory protection is required if mist or aerosols are formed; do not use the product in sprays or aerosols. Spilled product makes floors slippery. Wash your hands thoroughly after work.
