Firmer sulphur-free plasteline for warm studios

Chavant Le Beau Touché HM is the firmer version of Le Beau Touché, which Chavant itself calls HTR. This sulphur-free, non-drying plasteline has a hardness of Shore 27A and only softens at approx. 46 °C. Chavant recommends it for working environments warmer than 32 °C. The clay is smooth and flexible, with the same high tack as the Original. You receive a 0.907 kg (2 lb) block, individually wrapped in plastic.

Key benefits

  • For warm studios: less sensitive to heat than the Original, recommended above 32 °C.
  • Firmer: Shore 27A, for work that needs to hold its shape better.
  • Sulphur-free: silicone friendly according to Chavant, so suitable for models you mould with silicone rubber.
  • High tack: layers of clay bond well to each other and to your work.
  • Does not dry out: the clay stays workable and is reusable.

Typical applications

  • ✓ Sculpting in warm studios or under lamps
  • ✓ Figurative work, portraits and fine art
  • ✓ Models and master models for moulding with silicone rubber

Application

  1. For figurative work, build an armature first. Le Beau Touché HM is not self-supporting.
  2. Sculpt with traditional wooden or metal clay tools.
  3. Smooth the surface with rakes, spreaders and hand pressure. Naphtha, clear mineral spirits or 99 % isopropyl alcohol help with smoothing.
  4. Clean tools and surfaces with naphtha or 99 % isopropyl alcohol.

Points to note

  • ✓ Citrus-based solvents such as D-limonene can inhibit the cure of silicone rubber. Do not use them on clay you intend to mould.
  • ✓ Le Beau Touché HM is sulphur-free. With addition-cure (platinum) silicones, always do a small test first anyway.
  • ✓ If you want a softer, tackier clay at normal room temperature, choose Le Beau Touché Original.
  • ✓ Do not overheat the clay: overheated clay can cause serious burns.
  • ✓ Unopened, at room temperature and away from sunlight or UV, the shelf life is 2 years. Store an opened block airtight or fully wrapped in plastic.
