Matt two-component topcoat for wood, metal and plastics
De IJssel Double Coat Matt is a matt two-component topcoat based on saturated polyester resins and modified aliphatic isocyanates. It flows out beautifully, is scratch resistant, stands up well to various chemicals and keeps its colour for a long time. On many plastics Double Coat even bonds without a primer. You mix base and hardener 67 : 33 by weight and, after a 30-minute induction time, you have approx. 3 hours pot life at 20 °C. Choose a 500 gram or 1 kg set in a range of colours.
⚠️ Mandatory training for professional use
The Double Coat Matt hardener contains diisocyanates. Since 24 August 2023, this product may only be used industrially or professionally by staff who have completed the mandatory training on the safe use of diisocyanates (REACH Annex XVII, entry 74).

Application
- Make sure the substrate is dry and clean. Treat steel and aluminium with IJmopox ZF primer or IJmopox HB coating and sand with P180 to P220 grit. Treat wood (maximum 12 % moisture) with Variopox Injection Resin and sand with P120. Sand polyester with P220 to P280 and clean it with Double Coat Degreaser.
- Mix base and hardener thoroughly in a ratio of 67.0 : 33.0 by weight. The mix ratio by volume depends on the colour.
- Leave the mixture to stand for 30 minutes (induction time at 20 °C). The pot life is then 4 hours at 15 °C, 3 hours at 20 °C and 2 hours at 25 °C.
- Brush or roller: thin 3 to 5 % with Double Coat Brush Thinner. Use oval brushes or short-pile mohair or foam rollers.
- Conventional spray: thin 5 to 15 % with Double Coat Spray Thinner, nozzle 1.2 to 1.4 mm, 2 to 3 bar. Spraying is only suitable for professional applicators.
- Apply 35 to 70 µm dry film thickness per coat. Recoat after at least 24 hours at 20 °C (32 hours at 15 °C, 16 hours at 25 °C). Sand between coats using the grit sequence P240, P320, P360, P400.
- Fully hardened after 5 days at 20 °C, 10 days at 15 °C or 3 days at 25 °C.
Points to note
- ✓ Apply at a minimum of 15 °C, with a substrate temperature at least 3 °C above the dew point.
- ✓ Not suitable for surfaces permanently exposed to water.
- ✓ Without sanding you can recoat within a maximum of 2 days (20 °C); after sanding, at any time.
- ✓ Base and hardener are flammable (flash point 44 °C and 45 °C). Work in a well-ventilated area and wear gloves and eye protection.
- ✓ Unmixed in the original packaging, stored in a cool, frost-free place, the shelf life is at least 12 months.

Safety Information
According to the De IJssel safety data sheet, the base and hardener of Double Coat are classified as flammable liquids (H226). They may cause an allergic skin reaction (H317) and drowsiness or dizziness (H336). The hardener is also harmful if inhaled (H332) and may cause respiratory irritation (H335). The base is harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H412). Signal word: Warning. Keep the lacquer away from heat, sparks and open flames and use explosion-proof equipment. Do not breathe vapour or spray, work in a well-ventilated area and wear protective gloves, clothing and eye protection, and respiratory protection when spraying. For professional use, diisocyanate training is mandatory.
