Premium RTV-1 Silicone Adhesive for Professional Industrial Sealing and Bonding
Wacker ELASTOSIL® E41 Transparent TF is a self-levelling, one-component, solvent-based silicone rubber (RTV-1) that cures at room temperature through exposure to atmospheric moisture. The adhesive combines excellent mechanical properties with strong adhesion to many substrates – and in particular to already cured silicone rubber. E41 Transparent TF is the successor to ELASTOSIL® E41 Transparent and is applied straight from the tube or cartridge, with no mixing.
Key Benefits
- Self-levelling: 65,000 mPa·s – flows out smoothly on its own, ideal for horizontal surfaces, seams and thin layers
- Bonds to cured silicones: excellent adhesion to cured silicone rubber – suitable for repairing and assembling silicone parts
- Bonds without primer: to many substrates – such as glass, ceramics, metals, plastics and powder coatings
- Strong and elastic: Shore A 40, tensile strength 6.0 N/mm² and 350 % elongation at break – durable, flexible bonds; Wacker describes E41 TF as a high-tear grade
- Temperature-resistant: -45 °C to 180 °C continuously, up to 200 °C for short periods – resistant to changing climatic conditions and UV radiation
- Electrically insulating: cures transparent – for neat, virtually invisible seals
- Ready to use: one-component system – no weighing or mixing, skin formation after approx. 10–20 minutes
Typical Applications
- FIPG (Formed-In-Place Gaskets, wet method): gaskets formed in place for industrial components
- Lighting: sealing and bonding luminaires and lamp covers
- E-mobility and battery assembly: sealing and bonding housings and components
- Repair and assembly of cured silicone rubber and silicone products
- Household appliances, white goods and small appliances
- Heating, ventilation and air conditioning, mechanical engineering and the railway industry
Processing instructions:
- Clean and degrease the substrate and let any cleaning agent evaporate completely.
- Apply E41 Transparent TF directly from the tube or cartridge – no mixing is needed.
- Ensure free access to atmospheric moisture: curing starts on contact with moisture in the air. A skin forms after approx. 10–20 minutes (23 °C, 50 % r.h.).
- Let the material cure at room temperature; it cures through at approx. 3 mm per 24 hours. Higher humidity speeds up curing, while a higher temperature has little effect.
- Only use heat curing for thin layers (< 0.5 mm) and at no more than 80 °C, otherwise blisters will form due to the rapid release of acetic acid and solvent.
- Remove uncured material with white spirit or a similar non-polar solvent; remove cured material mechanically, if necessary with a silicone remover.
Please Note
- Highly flammable: E41 Transparent TF contains approx. 17 % solvent (synthetic isoparaffin) and has a flash point of 14 °C. Keep the product away from sparks, open flames and other ignition sources and work in a well-ventilated room.
- Acetic acid: acetic acid is released during curing. Sensitive metals such as copper and brass, and electronic components, may be attacked by it – test on your own substrate first.
- Thick layers: because curing depends on atmospheric moisture, E41 TF is not suitable for potting thick layers or enclosed spaces.
- No food contact: according to the manufacturer, this product does not comply with food contact regulations such as BfR or FDA.
- Storage: store dry, cool and tightly closed, protected from moisture and not below 0 °C. The best-before date is on the label.
- Industrial use: the safety data sheet lists industrial use as an adhesive. Always read the safety data sheet before use.
