Thickener to make Elastosil FX silicones paste-like and non-sag
Wacker Elastosil FX Thixo is the thickener for Wacker Elastosil FX silicones. In Wacker's current documentation this additive is called WACKER® Stabilizer 43. It is a colourless to yellowish, cloudy liquid of medium viscosity. It lets you thicken the silicone, right up to a paste-like mass that stays in place on sloping and vertical surfaces. You control the flow with the dosage: without Thixo the silicone flows best, with 0.2% the flow is medium and with 0.5% the silicone no longer flows.

Processing
- Weigh out Elastosil FX component A and B and mix them thoroughly according to the processing instructions of the silicone.
- Weigh out FX Thixo and add it: 0.2% for a medium flow, 0.3 to 0.5% for a non-sag mass.
- For small quantities, dose with a pipette. According to the FX user guide, 0 to 10 drops per 100 g FX A/B give a medium flow and 20 to 25 drops give no flow.
- Stir thoroughly again until the mass is even and use it within the pot life of the silicone.
Points to note
- ✓ Try a new dosage on a small quantity first. Drop size varies by pipette, so weigh if in doubt.
- ✓ Elastosil FX is an addition-cure (platinum) silicone. Curing can be inhibited by substances such as sulphur, tin compounds and latex. Use nitrile gloves and, if in doubt, do a small test first.
- ✓ Store the product between 5 °C and 30 °C in the tightly closed original packaging. Close the packaging immediately after use and use up any remaining material as soon as possible.
- ✓ The best-before date of each batch is on the label. After that date the product is not automatically unusable, but check its properties before you use it.
