Description
To create various metal effects, metal powder can be added to A1 acrylic resin. By slightly sanding the end result, the metal particles come to the surface and the model can even be patinated or treated as metal.
Processing
Add the same weight of metal powder as the weight of the acrylic resin powder as used during the preparation of the acrylic resin. After the metal powder has been mixed by the resin, it is ready to be applied in a mold or on an object.
N.B: The total mass of acrylic resin is not intended to be colored. Only the extremely outer "visible" layer is provided with metal powder, the rest is reinforced with unfilled resin.
Working example
We provide a "tile with family crest" with a bronze appearance. We take the following quantities for the ironing in of the mold (30 x 30 cm):
Acrylic liquid: acrylic powder: Bronze powder = 1: 2: 2 = 200 gr. : 400 gr. : 400 gr.
Rust effect
Add the same weight of iron powder as the weight of A1 Powder used when preparing the A1 Acrylic Resin. Once the iron powder has been mixed, it will be ready for use in a mould or to be applied to an object.
To achieve the best result, the iron-powder layer can be sanded with a wet abrasive sponge or waterproof sanding paper. This will bring the iron particles to the surface.
If wished, the surface can be treated with hydrochloric acid, ammonia, etc. This will accelerate the rusting process. When the effect wanted is achieved, the process can be halted with water and soda. A1 Sealer can be applied to maintain the effect. If the A1 Sealer is not used, the process will continue.
Bronze effect
To obtain a bronze effect, an equal amount of bronze powder can be added to the acrylic resin if powder is used to make the acrylic. Once the created layer is dry, sand it with a wet scouring pad or waterproof sandpaper. This causes the bronze particles to surface. Now the surface can be treated with special patina for bronze.
A sealer can be used to protect the surface against further aging or left untreated to continue the process naturally.
Shelf life
If stored dry, it has an unlimited shelf life.
