Premium Two-Component Primer for Professional Adhesion in Metal and Wood Applications
Wacker Primer AV is a two-component primer (mix ratio 2:1 by weight) that promotes adhesion between silicone rubber and metal, aluminium or wood. The primer is colourless to light yellow, has a low solvent content and is specifically designed for addition-cure (platinum-cure) RTV-2 silicones from ranges including ELASTOSIL M and RT. After mixing, the primer forms a rigid silicone resin film with which the catalysed silicone rubber forms a strong chemical bond during curing. Even silicone formulations with a high silicone oil content, such as those used for printing pads, achieve excellent adhesion to aluminium or plywood carrier plates.

Processing Instructions
- Clean the substrate so that it is dry and free from grease, oil and contaminants. Clean first with a non-polar solvent such as white spirit (boiling range 80 to 140 °C), then with a polar solvent, preferably acetone.
- Remove loose particles and roughen very smooth surfaces by sanding.
- Mix Parts A and B in a 2:1 ratio by weight by shaking the closed mixing container. Never seal the mixing container gas-tight, as hydrogen gas may be released.
- Only mix the amount that can be used within the pot life of approx. 8 hours.
- Apply the primer thinly and free of bubbles by brushing, dipping or spraying. Apply as thinly as possible on smooth, non-absorbent surfaces; apply generously on rough or porous surfaces.
- Allow the primer film to react for at least 15 minutes at a relative humidity of at least 40% (check with a hygrometer).
- Apply the catalysed silicone rubber preferably immediately after drying, but within 24 hours at the latest, as the bond strength may otherwise decrease.
Safety Information
Wacker Primer AV (Part A) is highly flammable, with a flash point of 2 °C. Keep the product away from heat, sparks and open flames and work only in a well-ventilated area. Hydrogen gas may be released when mixing A and B, so never seal the mixing container gas-tight. Wear protective gloves, tight-fitting safety goggles and suitable protective clothing. Safety Information
Wacker Primer AV (component A) is classified as a highly flammable liquid and vapour (H225) with a flash point of 2 degrees Celsius. It may be fatal if swallowed and enters the airways (H304), causes skin irritation (H315) and serious eye damage (H318), may cause drowsiness or dizziness (H336) and is toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects (H411). Hydrogen gas may be released on contact with moisture or when mixing A and B; therefore never seal the mixing vessel gas-tight. When using, wear protective gloves, tight-fitting safety goggles and suitable protective clothing. Work only in a well-ventilated area or with local exhaust and keep the product away from heat, sparks and open flame. Do not smoke during use.
