Hard, translucent platinum addition-cure silicone for mould making, jewellery and rapid prototyping
Zhermack HT 45 Translucent is a pourable two-component platinum addition-cure silicone that cures at room temperature into a translucent mould with a hardness of Shore A 45. The mix ratio is 1:1 by weight. Thanks to its high hardness and mechanical resistance, HT 45 is suitable for dimensionally stable moulds of small, highly detailed objects with thin walls.
Key benefits
- Shore A 45: a firm, dimensionally stable mould that hardly deforms during casting.
- Tear strength 15 N/mm: suitable for repeated use.
- Stable mechanical properties: the cured rubber retains its properties over the long term.
- Precise reproduction: suitable for fine details and thin surfaces.
- 1:1 mix ratio: easy weighing, no calculations.
- Translucent: you can see the model through the mould.
Typical applications
- Mould making where mechanical resistance, dimensional stability and precision matter.
- Jewellery and small precision parts.
- Rapid prototyping of small, highly detailed objects with thin walls, such as turbine parts.
- Moulds for plaster, coatings and acrylic resins. For polyurethane casting resin, you are better off choosing a silicone from our silicones for polyurethane casting resin collection.
- Epoxy and polyester resins only with a release agent, see the explanation below.
Processing
- Shake the base and catalyst separately to break up any sedimentation.
- Weigh out both components 1:1; use a separate spoon for each component. A deviation of up to 5% does not change the end result.
- Mix vigorously until the colour is uniform, scraping the bottom and sides of the container.
- Degas the mixture within the 12-minute pot life and preferably pour from a height of approximately 30 cm.
- Demould after approximately 2.5 hours at 23 °C. Use compressed air if necessary, and no sharp objects.
- Additional pours are possible within 24 hours: the new layer bonds to the first.
At 40 °C the pot life and curing time are roughly halved. At 4 °C the pot life doubles and curing takes about three times as long.
Technical data
Colour of base, catalyst and end product: translucent. Density 1.11 g/cm³. Viscosity approximately 8,000 mPa·s. Pot life 12 minutes and curing time 2.5 hours at 23 °C. Hardness Shore A 45 after 24 hours. Tensile strength approximately 5 N/mm², elongation at break approximately 250%, tear strength approximately 15 N/mm. Service temperature −40 to 200 °C. Typical values after 24 hours of vulcanisation at 23 °C, not intended for preparing specifications.
Shelf life 18 months when stored between 5 and 27 °C. Do not mix up the caps of the base and catalyst.

⚠️ Casting epoxy, polyester or polyurethane
Before casting epoxy or polyester resin, apply a release agent to the mould to protect the silicone, and with aggressive resins repeat this for every pour. If you skip this step, the resin attacks the mould faster and the mould will yield fewer castings. For polyurethane, you are better off choosing a silicone that the manufacturer itself recommends for this purpose, such as Dow Silastic RTV 3481 R, Wacker Elastosil M 4670 or Wacker Elastosil Vario 40. You will find the complete overview under silicones for polyurethane casting resin; a suitable release agent can be found among our release agents.
Please note: inhibition with addition-cure silicones
This is a platinum addition-cure silicone. Curing can be inhibited by sulphur, nitrogen and tin compounds, latex gloves, some plasticines, condensation-cure silicones and certain 3D printing materials. The technical data sheet (TDS) also warns that some petrolatum oils can interfere with curing. If in doubt, carry out a small test first. Make sure the surface is clean, grease-free and dry.
