Skin-Friendly Platinum Silicone for SFX, Prosthetics and Skin Replication
CHT True Skin 20 is a 2-component, addition-curing (platinum-cure) liquid silicone elastomer with a Shore A 20 hardness, specially developed for realistic skin replication, prosthetics and special effects. CHT has had the material tested for skin contact to ISO 10993-5 and ISO 10993-10. It combines extreme stretch (1000%), a translucent colour for accurate pigmentation and a wide service temperature range of -55°C to +204°C. Softer than True Skin 30, ideal for moving prosthetics and delicate skin textures. Easy 1:1 mix ratio.
Key Benefits
- Tested for skin contact: no cytotoxic effect (ISO 10993-5), no significant irritation and no sensitisation (ISO 10993-10)
- Exceptionally soft, Shore A 20: Maximum skin-like softness for moving prosthetics, appliances and realistic skin textures
- Extreme stretch: 1000% elongation at break (ISO 37) for natural movement and durable SFX work
- Translucent for perfect pigmentation: Clear base for accurate skin tones and colour mixing with silicone-compatible pigments
- Wide service temperature: Stable from -55°C to +204°C
- Minimal shrinkage: <0.1% linear shrinkage for dimensionally accurate moulds and prosthetics
Skin contact: what CHT has had tested
CHT has had True Skin 20 tested at Pacific BioLabs, focused on contact with the skin.
- ✓ ISO 10993-5:2009, cytotoxicity: the material is not considered to have a cytotoxic effect.
- ✓ ISO 10993-10:2010, irritation and sensitisation: intracutaneous reactivity and the maximisation test for delayed-type hypersensitivity. No biologically significant irritation and no sensitisation reactions, in saline as well as in cottonseed oil.
- ✓ FDA 21 CFR 177.2600: compliance with the US regulation for rubber articles intended for repeated food contact. This is a composition requirement, not a skin test.
The underlying CHT test reports are available on request via info@siliconesandmore.com. To compare with other skin-friendly silicones and see exactly what each manufacturer claims, visit the category Skin-friendly and biocompatible silicones.
⚠️ What these tests do and do not say
- ✓ Tested for skin contact, not for mucosal contact. For mucosal contact up to 24 hours, Zhermack ZA SFX 0020 and ZA SFX 10 WT 10 are the documented choice.
- ✓ The tests apply to the pure, fully cured material. Pigment, softener, release agent, mix ratio and cure all affect the result of your piece.
- ✓ This is not a certification of your finished product. If you are making a medical device or a product with prolonged body contact, have the cured finished product tested by an accredited laboratory.
Typical Applications
- SFX prosthetics and appliances for film, TV and theatre with maximum freedom of movement
- Skin replication and body casting for artists
- Animatronics and robotics where a soft, skin-like covering is required
- Medical simulation and anatomical training models
- Cosplay masks and character prosthetics with natural movement
- Podiatry applications and skin-contact products
Processing instructions:
- Stir both components A and B thoroughly before use (fillers may settle)
- Mix A and B at 1:1 by weight in a clean container (3 times the volume)
- Mix until the colour is uniform
- Degassing recommended: 30-50 mbar intermittently, 5-10 minutes
- Pour by gravity or pressure injection within the 20-minute pot life at 23°C. Chilling the components beforehand extends the pot life
- Allow to cure for 6-8 hours at 23°C, or accelerate with heat
Inhibition warning: Cure can be inhibited by nitrogen, sulphur, phosphorus, arsenic, organotin catalysts, PVC stabilisers, epoxy resin catalysts, condensation-cure silicones, modelling clays, sulphur-vulcanised rubbers, onion and garlic. Use clean tools only.

Safety Information
True Skin 20 is a two-component silicone that, according to the manufacturer, is not classified as a hazardous substance. During processing, the components can cause slight irritation; therefore, work in a well-ventilated area and avoid skin and eye contact. Keep mixing tools clean to prevent unwanted curing. Avoid contact with materials that may interfere with curing (such as sulfur-containing clay, latex, or epoxy catalysts). Keep out of reach of children.| Safety Pictograms | Safety Data Sheets (SDS) |
