Shelf life
ELASTOSIL® FX 28 A/B should be stored between 5°C and 30°C in the tightly closed original packaging. The shelf life of each batch is stated on the product label. Storage beyond the date stated on the label does not necessarily mean that the product is no longer usable. In this case, however, the properties required for the intended use must be checked for quality assurance reasons.
Safety information
Wacker states in the technical data sheet that components A and B of this addition-curing class contain only ingredients that have proven over many years to be neither toxic nor aggressive, and that special handling precautions are therefore not required: only the general industrial hygiene regulations apply. In addition, always follow the safety data sheet below — that document governs personal protective equipment, storage and disposal.
⚠️ What Wacker declares about skin contact and food contact
For ELASTOSIL® FX 10, FX 20, FX 28 and FX Gel 30, Wacker issues a Statement on Compatibility to Skin. It states that no toxicological tests have been carried out on this product itself, but that irritation, sensitization and cytotoxicity tests to ISO 10993 have been performed on other two-component addition-curing silicones of similar base materials, showing no adverse effects. Based on that analogy and the toxicological properties of the ingredients, Wacker does not expect irritation or sensitization on contact with intact skin.
So this is an expectation based on analogy — not a test report on this product, and not a certification, because no such certification exists at raw material level. Wacker makes it a condition that the end application falls within the WACKER SILICONES HEALTH CARE POLICY of September 2019. That policy generally does not permit use in contact with the genital mucosa, generally excludes applications of more than 30 days, and assesses contraceptive and reproductive devices case by case. If you are working on such a product, contact us first.
Food contact. The Regulatory Product Information for this product states food contact conformity under EC 1935/2004, BfR XV Silicones (volatiles max 0.5 %, extractables max 0.5 %, platinum residue max 50 mg/kg in the finished article), the French Arrêté of 25 November 1992, Spanish Real Decreto 847/2011, Swiss Ordinance SR 817.023.21, Chinese standards GB 9685-2016, GB 4806.16-2025 and GB 4806.1-2016, and ANVISA/Mercosur. For the United States Wacker gives no blanket statement; a food contact statement is available there on request. Wacker further declares that phthalates, bisphenols, PVC, PFAS, SCCP, heavy metals, latex and fragrances, among others, are not intentionally introduced, that the product is not of animal or human origin, is not derived from GMOs and does not undergo irradiation.
The processor remains responsible for the finished article: correct weighing and mixing, full cure, post-cure and their own assessment of the application. We send the Wacker statements on request.
