    Size chart

Lightweight, flexible polyurethane casting foam for backfilling

Altropol AltroFoam SF 50 is a two-component flexible polyurethane foam with a low density. You mix component A and component B at the simple ratio of 100 : 50 by weight (2 : 1). At 500 mPa·s at 25 °C the mixed system is very fluid, and the start time is approx. 11 seconds. Free-rise, you get a light, compressible foam with a density of 50 kg/m³. The blowing agent contains no fluorinated hydrocarbons.

⚠️ Mandatory training for professional use

Component B of AltroFoam SF 50 contains diisocyanates. Since 24 August 2023, industrial or professional users may only process this product if they have completed the mandatory training on the safe use of diisocyanates (REACH Annex XVII, entry 74).

Companies can register their staff via safeusediisocyanates.eu. You will find more information on our page safe working with polyurethane and diisocyanates.

    Key benefits

    • Low density: 50 kg/m³ free-rise, so a light and flexible foam.
    • Simple mixing ratio: 100 : 50 by weight, or 2 : 1.
    • Very fluid: 500 mPa·s mixed, so the foam fills cavities easily.
    • No fluorinated blowing agents: the blowing agent contains no fluorinated hydrocarbons.
    • No preheated mould needed: free-rise in unheated cavities and moulds.

    Typical applications

    • ✓ Industrial parts
    • ✓ Backfilling of cavities
    • ✓ Light, flexible fillings for objects

    Processing

    1. Bring both components to at least 20 °C and work in a dry room. The system is sensitive to moisture.
    2. Stir component A intensively in its original container.
    3. Weigh A and B accurately at a ratio of 100 : 50 by weight (95 : 41 by volume). For small quantities, use scales accurate to 0.01 gram.
    4. Mix briefly and intensively with a high-speed stirrer at approx. 1,000 rpm. Work quickly: the start time is approx. 11 seconds.
    5. Pour the mixture immediately into the cavity or mould in a steady stream and let it rise freely. No preheating is needed for this. For rigid parts, preheat the mould to 45 to 50 °C.
    6. Close the containers tightly straight after each use.

    Points of attention

    • ✓ If the mixing ratio deviates by more than 3 %, you will not achieve the stated properties.
    • ✓ Larger quantities and higher temperatures shorten the working time considerably. Do not mix too much material at once.
    • ✓ Altropol has not yet published the rise and cure times. Run a small test first with a new mould or cavity.
    • ✓ Do not use wooden spatulas or stirring sticks.
    • ✓ Store the product in its tightly closed original container at 20 to 25 °C. The shelf life is shown on the label. Use opened containers as soon as possible.
